Well, Antoinette, Mr. Waterston, I’ve contemplated your question and I have come to one conclusion: I don't care if I am I am just a shallow, two-dimensional person consumed entirely in my quest for one man... I love Blind Man Soy, even if he is the end of me! |
| Up in the bleachers, newly-blind Young Man Soy was taking a sip of milk just as this was said and sprays the milk everywhere. |
| BLIND MAN SOY: |
WHAAA??? |
| MARC: |
Dude, haven't you been paying any attention to the series these past few months? |
| BLIND MAN SOY: |
I've been trying to finish Chrono Trigger. Man, now that I can’t play video games, I actually pay attention to stuff and find out how crazy the world is getting! |
| LIMA: |
And Soy, as a declaration of my passion, I’ve choreographed a little dance to a top hit. |
| Suddenly, the lights dim as the auditoriums huge speakers begin to play Spice Girls' "Stop Right Now". Lima leaps and twirls around the stage with incredible flare and passion, for now may very well be a life-changing climactic event: the moment she finally wins Soy over |
| SAM WATERSTON: |
Wait a moment! That song isn't even out yet! |
| The sudden burst of feedback from Sam Waterston's microphone through the speakers is so loud that it shatters Lima's ear drums and permanently deafens her. |
| LIMA: |
Huh, did anyone else feel that? Anyway, Soy, now that the cat’s out of the bag, will you go with me to the Annual Moonlight Spring Dance? |
| BLIND MAN SOY: |
Well, you put so much work into asking, why the heck not? |
| LIMA: |
What? |
| BLIND MAN SOY: |
WELL, YOU PUT SO MUCH WORK INTO ASKING, WHY THE HECK NOT? |
| LIMA: |
WHAT? |
| BLIND MAN SOY: |
WELL, YOU PUT-- er, YES!! |
| An awkward silence gains its force as Lima's expression changes from one of hope to one of pain. |
| LIMA: |
Soy, how dare you embarrass me in front of the whole school by murmuring at me! You don’t know whose heart you’re breaking! You don’t know how much I’ve put on the line in the hopes of being your date! You don’t know how long I’ve spent dreaming of our future together! And you just throw it all away! SOY, YOU’LL REGRET THIS! YOU’LL ALL REGRET THIS! YOU WON’T SEE THE LAST OF ME! |
| Thunder suddenly resounds and echoes through the gym, Lima bolts out the fire exit door, sobbing. With the thunder comes a mid-day storm darkening the sky. Heidi pursues Lima into the storm, Soy stumbling after them, but it is already too late for Soy, as Lima’s experience of rejection is blackening her heart like the storm blackens the mid-day sky. |
